Ride with the 40 Plan September 1 & 2, 2011 As promised, here are the details for the Ride with the 40 run. To remind everyone, Ride with the 40 is a group of riders that is helping to raise funds to build a permanent memorial for the Heroes of Flight 93 who so valiantly defied the terrorists that day on September 11th, 2001. The northern Ride with the 40 group that we will be meeting consists of approximately 10 riders. Some of these riders had family members on Flight 93 that day and are riding in their memory and honor. Go to www.ridewiththe40.org http://www.ridewiththe40.org for more details. Our support for the “Ride with the 40” calls for 4 contributing teams. We need Chapter support in all four areas, so please consider carefully how you can help out during this once in a lifetime ride. Anyone who rides with the 40 will receive a very nice patch to commemorate the occasion. Donations to offset the cost of the patch will be welcome, but not necessary. Team 1 (need minimum of three riders) Ride to Green River, Utah Wednesday afternoon, August 31. We will stay at the Robbers Roost Motel, 325 Main St., where we will meet up with the core riders coming in from Nevada that day. On Thursday, September 1 at 8:30am, we will escort the core riders to the Colorado State line and on into Grand Junction for fuel and brief rest. From Grand Junction, we will continue west on I-70 to Glenwood Springs, again for fuel and a brief stop before moving on into Glenwood Canyon. We will be stopping at one of the rest stops (to be determined) in the canyon for a box lunch. Note there may be a nominal fee to pay for the lunch (still trying to get it donated). Following lunch, the group will continue east on I-70 to Georgetown for fuel and a break. From Georgetown, we will ride on into Denver and to Rocky Mountain Harley-Davidson for a free BBQ dinner sponsored by the dealership and RMHOG. Please contact Mike Dean at 303-521-5713 or by email at editor@rmhog.org
Team 2 (one truck/car and as many riders as we can get!) Depart from Rocky Mountain Harley-Davidson on Thursday, September 1st no later than 8:30am. Ride to Glenwood Springs and meet the core Team 1 at the rest stop (to be determined) in Glenwood Canyon for lunch. Note, there may be a nominal fee to pay for the lunch (still trying to get it donated). Following lunch, the group will turn east on I-70 to Georgetown for fuel and a break. From Georgetown, we will ride on into Denver and to Rocky Mountain Harley-Davidson for a free BBQ dinner sponsored by the dealership and RMHOG. We could use a pickup or SUV and driver to act as a support vehicle and carry water, beverages, and box lunches. The Chapter will pay for your fuel if you are the designated cage driver. Please contact Mike Dean at 303-521-5713 or by email at editor@rmhog.org
Team 3 (Reception at Rocky Mountain Harley-Davidson) If you can’t ride on Thursday September 1st but can come to the dealership in the afternoon/evening, please stop by and meet the riders, have a free BBQ dinner and support the Ride with the 40 riders. We also need to help the dealership set up tables, pop-up canopies and cooking/serving duties for the BBQ dinner. Please come a bit early at 3:30pm to pitch in and help with setup! Estimated time of arrival for the riders at RMH-D is 4:30pm. At the time of this writing, Cheryl Preheim and a video crew with Channel 9 will be at the dealership to conduct interviews and help us promote the cause. They will be broadcasting the “Ride with the 40” story and plan a repeat broadcast during a 9-11 special they have planned for Sunday, September 11th. So come on out and you might just get your smiling mug on TV! Please contact Mike Dean at 303-521-5713 or by email at editor@rmhog.org
