IF / WHEN want to post a message to the Chapter website, send an e-mail to postToWeb at rmhog.org. There is a process that runs on the website which checks the e-mail account periodically and processes any new e-mails.
Notes: The e-mail processor on the Chapter website runs every 10 minutes so there might be some delay between “send” and “see”.
Once processed, the information from your e-mail will be auto-posted to
- the website in the NEWS section which appears both on the home page and its own section, and
- the Chapter’s Facebook page as a link which brings the user back to the Chapter website to read the full post if needed. Note: Once you see the post on the Chapter website, if you happen to check and do not also see it on the Chapter Facebook page please contact the Webmaster; this is a function that is still a bit quirky.
REQUIREMENTS:
- The e-mail must be sent FROM the e-mail address that is associated with your Chapter website profile. You can update your profile to change your e-mail address at any time.
- Your Chapter website profile must have CONTRIBUTOR privileges. If you feel you should have Contirbutor privileges (typically all of the Chapter Officers) and are not able to post to the website via e-mail, please contact the Webmaster.
CAUTION:
- DO NOT add this e-mail address to the [RockyMountainHOG] Google Group listing or any other mass e-mail list; manually add it to the TO: or CC: of the e-mail you are sending WHEN you want to post to the Chapter website and Facebook page!
- DO NOT include anything in the e-mail content that is not “public”, i.e. member website login information or anything that you don’t want the general public to see.
TIPS:
- The subject line becomes the title on the NEWs entry and on the Facebook entry. Things in the subject line in brackets, i.e. [RockyMountainHOG] are stripped and not considered part of the subject line thus do not become part of the title.
- Use “reply to name and/or e-mail address and/or phone” vs. “reply to this e-mail” since viewers via the Chapter website or Facebook page will not be seeing this as an e-mail and thus would not be able to “reply-to” it.
- Attachments are accepted and passed through to the Chapter NEWS posting. i.e. Images, PDF documents. In your e-mail, try to refer to “see the attached document” vs. “see the below” since the placement might be different from the e-mail to the web post. Note: The attachments do not go through to the Facebook page but the Facebook link brings the user back to the website should they need the additional information.
- E-Mail signature lines will most likely be removed by the processor. i.e. anything after a line with only “–” on it, such as all the text that is auto-added to the Google Groups mailings, is removed automatically. We can also add additional cues as needed for different signatures that we want stripped.
